Cape Fear Hero: Saving strays one dog at a time
Posted: Aug 27, 2010
You could say that Sherry Gloer's
business has gone to the dogs. At Adam's Folly Bed and Biscuit, she
boards people's pets and gives strays a home when they need it most.
"I've always picked up a stray and enjoyed trying to find it a good home," said Gloer.
Six years ago, Gloer took that love to a new level by helping found "Adopt and Angel" in Brunswick County. It's a program that rescues cats and dogs from county animal control and finds them permanent homes.
Sara Gerald, 12, spends her free time at the Bed and Biscuit helping with the animals.
"They only get a certain amount of time at animal control, and we give them all the time they need to be adopted," said Gerald.
The young girl nominated Gloer for "Cape Fear Hero" because she thought Gloer should receive credit for helping hundreds of animals find the right homes.
Gloer said she's humbled by the recognition and is ready to continue helping the animals and training the next generation of volunteers.
"She's inspired me a lot to be like her when I'm older," said Gerald.

Adam's Folly GIVES BACK because we have a HEART!
Because we care about ALL animals, Adam's Folly supports
Adopt-AN-ANGEL, a homeless
animal shelter that serves New Hanover and Brunswick counties.
View their homeless animals at www.adoptanangel.net.
Our owner and manager volunteer their time too! You can often
find them during their off hours at Petco on weekends during Adopt-An-ANGEL's
marathon adoption fairs. Together, our owner Jill Jones and manager
Sherry Gloer founded Adopt-An-ANGEL in 2004 and this organization
has found homes for close to 4000 homeless animals. Sherry and Jill
also serve on the Wilmington Fur Ball Committee a black tie, red
carpet gala that raises money for local animal shelters. Adam's Folly
donated a 7 day stay for up to 2 dogs to the silent auction. See
www.wilmintonfurball.com for details.
Adam's Folly recently donated
to Strutt Your Mutt an event sponsored by Brunswick Area Responsible
K-9 Owners (B.A.R.K.) to help raise money for a dog park in Shallotte.
See http://www.canineacademy.us/bark.html for details.
