Brass is highly recyclable and cost-effective.  Recycling of brass has been a viable alternative for years. When brass is re smelted for recycling there is no loss of mechanical or electrical properties.  The reason such a premium price is paid for brass scrap is because it is essential to the economics of the brass industry. 

The use of brass scrap means that the cost of products made from recycled brass is considerably less than it might otherwise be. The majority of extruded brass used today is made from recycled material.

The stamping temperatures for brass is lower than temperatures required for ferrous alloys.  That means the manufacture of brass products is energy efficient.  Also, the low stamping temperature also gives the die, used in the stamping process, a longer life.

Brasses particularly leaded brasses can be machined at high speeds and feeds with very little wear on the tools that machine the brass items.

Brass items don't have to be plated or painted to be protected from corrosion. Brass provides an ideal substrate for many types of plating. When a plated application is needed brass is often the base metal of choice The reason for this choice is that many finishes are porous.  The corrosion resistance of brass prevents cracks, blisters, or rust through of the plating.

Recycling brass makes good sense.
